Who We Are

Building Montana Since 1960

For over 65 years, Martel Construction has built Montana’s most complex projects — healthcare, schools, commercial developments, and custom homes. Montana-based and owned by key employees, we’re built on a simple belief: leadership should stay close to the work, and accountability should come with it.

Our Story

Three Generations, One Standard

Our story started in Bozeman, Montana, when German-born carpenter Emil Martel and his son William founded Martel Construction in 1960. Today we’re owned by key employees, with over 200 team members across four Montana markets, building large-scale commercial, public, and custom residential projects statewide. Our approach hasn’t changed: hire people who care, build things that last, and treat every project like our name is on it, because it is.

1960

Founded in Bozeman

German-born carpenter Emil Martel and his son William founded the company on a simple belief: good work comes from good people, and anything worth building is worth building right.

1980s

Beyond the Homestead

We grew from our residential roots into commercial and public construction, taking on increasingly complex projects across Montana.

2000s

Growing Leadership from Within

As we grew, key employees stepped into leadership and ownership roles, building long-term continuity and keeping decisions close to the work.

2010s

Serving Communities Across Montana

We expanded across Bozeman, Big Sky, Missoula, and Kalispell, and added our own in-house millwork shop for greater craftsmanship, quality control, and consistency.

TODAY

Third Generation, Still Building

Now led by the third generation of the Martel family, we’ve completed more than 450 projects across Montana. We’re still building the homes, businesses, healthcare facilities, and public spaces that strengthen communities throughout the state.

What Drives Us

The Standards Behind the Name

Safety is Non-Negotiable

We follow a Zero Accident / Zero Injury philosophy, with safety planned into every project and reinforced through training, accountability, and disciplined execution.

Building Responsibly

We prioritize Montana subcontractors, regionally sourced materials, low-impact construction practices, and long-term durability to build responsibly for future generations.

Rooted in Montana

We’re rooted in the communities where we live and build. Through local hiring, regional trade partners, and long-term relationships, we’re investing in Montana—not just constructing buildings.

Craftsmanship That Lasts

We build with long-term performance in mind, where quality, precision, and attention to detail matter more than taking shortcuts.

Our Leadership

Generational Expertise in Every Montana Market

Third-generation family leadership and seasoned market presidents — the people accountable for every Martel project, in every corner of the state.

Tony Martel

Tony Martel is a third-generation leader of Martel Construction. Raised on Martel jobsites alongside his brother Jason, he learned the business from their grandfather, Emil (“Opa”) Martel, and their father, Bill.

As CEO and Board Chair, Tony guides the company’s overall direction and works with Martel’s market presidents and enterprise leadership team on decisions that affect the business as a whole. He helps maintain the standards  that have carried Martel through three generations, while supporting the employee leaders who will shape its future.

Jason Martel

Market President, Bozeman

Jason Martel is a third-generation leader of Martel Construction. He works directly with owners, architects, and subcontractors throughout the Bozeman market to ensure every project meets expectations for quality, budget, and schedule — bringing both deep experience and personal investment to every job.

Joe Perrelli

Market President, Big Sky

Joe Perrelli leads Martel’s Big Sky operations. A Montana State University graduate who started in the field, Joe has built a reputation for upfront communication, hands-on involvement, and consistent delivery — keeping projects moving with clarity and accountability.

Ryan Dunn

Market President, Kalispell/Flathead

Travis Frey

Market President, Missoula

Starting as a Foreman after graduating from UM, Travis has seen and done it all.
